Enchanted (2007)
The focal point of our discourse in this episode revolves around the film "Enchanted," a cinematic endeavor that intricately weaves elements of fairy tale and modernity. We delve into the juxtaposition of humor and narrative structure, examining how certain scenes, particularly the restaurant scene, provide comic relief despite their apparent detachment from the overarching story. Both Alec and I reflect on our personal experiences and reactions to the film, with Alec expressing his disdain for the movie, while I maintain a more neutral stance, acknowledging its potential appeal to younger audiences. Our conversation also touches upon the performances of the cast, notably Amy Adams and James Marsden, as we contemplate the film's merits and shortcomings. Ultimately, we arrive at a consensus regarding the film's lack of impact, finding ourselves unlikely to revisit this particular viewing experience.

Transcript
The restaurant scene.
Speaker A:Yeah, like you could do without it from a story perspective.
Speaker A:But it's the funniest part of the movie.
Speaker A:Like when he hurls the pizza like a frisbee.
Speaker A:It's like eight feet wide, like into the.
Speaker B:And it just blows up.
Speaker A:Welcome to the what's Every podcast we fashion ourselves cinematic judge and Jerry.
Speaker A:My name is J.J. crowder.
Speaker A:I'm here with my co host Matson.
Speaker A:Wait a minute.
Speaker A:I that up.
Speaker A:See what happens when you're sick.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:Running.
Speaker B:Unbelievable.
Speaker B:You confused me with that.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:It's not.
Speaker A:It's just.
Speaker A:It's in my head as one thing and I got used to it the other way and then that came back.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Anyway, so my co host, Alec Burgess, the important one.
Speaker B:Let's get it.
Speaker A:We appreciate you tuning in.
Speaker A:Go ahead, hit that.
Speaker A:Follow like subscribe bell, notification buttons.
Speaker A:Hit them all.

Speaker A:You can join for free.
Speaker A:Vote for free.
Speaker A:If you're willing to help support the podcast with a couple of bucks, you can get in on the real fun of all the behind the scenes.
Speaker A:That like Alex gonna give me hell for almost calling him Matson earlier.
Speaker A:That I'm sure will happen after this episode.
Speaker B:It's fine.
Speaker B:It's fine.
Speaker A:So with that, yeah, August, we're new month.
Speaker A:Ironically enough.
Speaker A:This is.
Speaker A:We did actors and actresses and this is Matson's actress and he's not going to hear be here for any of these recordings because he's currently moving.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Son of a. I know, right?
Speaker A:Like saddles us with Amy Adams.
Speaker A:Actually, I shouldn't say that I like A.B.
Speaker A:adams, but.
Speaker B:Great.
Speaker B:But he's missing all the great picks that we picked for him.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:It's just gonna be something anyway, so yeah, the month of August is Amy Adams month.
Speaker A:And to kick us off, we're jumping right in with some hot with Enchanted.
Speaker A: ,: Speaker A:It was written by Bill Kelly and it was directed by Kevin Lima Stars Amy Adams, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, Timothy Spall, Adina Menzel, Rachel Covey and Julie Andrews as the narrator.
Speaker A:Of course, there's some other names in there that are pretty big, but as we know, we'll jump into this movie which is About a young maiden in a land called Andalasia who's prepared to be wed, is sent away to New York City by an evil queen, where she falls in love with the lawyer.
Speaker A:I started off as a really good synopsis, and then it went like, we're in a hurry, let's go.
Speaker B:We gotta.
Speaker B:We got a character count.
Speaker B:We gotta fit.
Speaker A:That was wild.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Enchanted.
Speaker A:I. Alec, I know why you picked this, but why don't you tell our lovely listeners and watchers why you picked this?
Speaker B:I hate this movie.
Speaker B:I. I picked it for one reason only.
Speaker B:To make Matson fucking watch it.
Speaker B:And that motherfucker isn't even here.
Speaker B:So this is a waste of a fucking pick.
Speaker B:I'm so mad.
Speaker B:The worst part is so I. I hate this movie.
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker B:I don't really have a good reason for hating it necessarily.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But when I.
Speaker B:When I was working at the Disney store, like 10 years ago, this soundtrack made up like 80% of the CD that we listened to when the store was open.
Speaker B:So I.
Speaker B:Before I'd even seen this movie, I knew the songs and, oh, she loves this movie.
Speaker B:So she was all excited when we got to watch it, but she was also like, I thought you hated this movie.
Speaker B:And I had to tell her there's a bit of podcast politics going on and maneuvering here and just had to go and move in the first week, I guess.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:This movie.
Speaker B:And I picked it for Matson and he's not even here.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:What a dick.
Speaker B:What about you, jj?
Speaker B:How do you feel about this movie?
Speaker A:You know, listen, I'd never seen this movie.
Speaker A:I had intention of seeing this movie, so thanks for that.
Speaker A:I do appreciate the effort to get Matson.
Speaker A:It's always a pleasure.
Speaker A:And I.
Speaker A:You know, we were talking about recording in bulk, you and me, but maybe we'll hold off because my picks were meant to with Matson too.
Speaker A:But I also had contingency that if he.
Speaker A:Because I knew he was moving.
Speaker A:So if he wasn't able to record for some reason, you and I would probably like the two movies that I picked.
Speaker A:Therefore, have a good time recording regardless.
Speaker A:But maybe I'll see.
Speaker A:What.
Speaker A:I don't remember what he said.
Speaker A:He's gonna be back.
Speaker A:But wow, we're getting to see some of the behind the scenes podcast movie movie, podcast politics here.
Speaker A:But yeah, maybe we can drag the recordings out a little bit so that he has to watch the two movies that I picked, just because I know he'll.
Speaker A:Absolutely.
Speaker A:He'll probably hate them worse than he would have hated this because deep down, Matson has the soul of a little girl sometimes.
Speaker A:So for him, this movie may have resonated and he may have enjoyed it.
Speaker A:And that's makes sense, really.
Speaker A:I feel bad.
Speaker A:I'm sorry for little girls everywhere by that comparison.
Speaker A:But, I mean, there is a little bit of that in Matson.
Speaker A:So this is what happens when you don't show up, dude.
Speaker A:Lamb based it on the podcast.
Speaker A:So with that, listen, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker A:Look, did I hate this movie?
Speaker A:No, the.
Speaker A:That I love this movie.
Speaker A:Absolutely not.
Speaker A:Like, I felt nothing about this movie.
Speaker A:I will say it's not good.
Speaker A:Like, but I also see from a certain point of view and, like, from a kid's perspective or even from like a musical enthusiast perspective or a Patrick Deny perspective, like lover perspective or a, you know, Marsden perspective.
Speaker A:Lover perspective or an Amy Adams lover perspective.
Speaker A:Like, I could see where you would find some enjoyment in this movie.
Speaker A:I'm none of those three things.
Speaker A:At least Amy Adams in this particular can't, like, want to rip her vocal cords out while she's talking throughout this whole movie perspective.
Speaker A:Like, I. Yeah, so, I mean, I. I'm kind of indifferent about this movie, but I. I wouldn't watch it again.
Speaker A:You know what I mean?
Speaker A:I would never have watched it in the first place if it weren't for the podcast.
Speaker A:So chalk another win up to the.
Speaker A:What's our verdict?
Speaker B:Found a movie.
Speaker B:Jj.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean, for a good reason.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I mean, it's not even like I was like, I'll never watch.
Speaker A:Enchant.
Speaker A:It was just like, I. Nah.
Speaker A:Interest.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Like, why I don't have kids.
Speaker A:I don't.
Speaker A:I don't even.
Speaker A: My nieces are, like, in: Speaker A:So it's like.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Anyway, I would.
Speaker A:The best part about it was forcing Casey would watch it and having her at least a dozen times look at me and go, alec.
Speaker B:Oh, that makes me so happy.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:So I, like, I don't know what it is because there's parts that I do laugh at.
Speaker B:Timothy, sure.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, he's funny.
Speaker B:Pip the chipmunk.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker B:Great.
Speaker B:But it's.
Speaker B:It's gotta be something between the fact that you have Amy Adams Marston Spall, who are all, like, way over in Fairy tale view with their acting.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And everybody else, including, like, in my opinion, Patrick Dempsey, is just bland.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:There's nothing going on there.
Speaker B:And so it's.
Speaker B:It's just weird.
Speaker B:And I I paused this at like 35 minutes in thinking I had 35 minutes left.
Speaker B:Son of a Bitch is an almost a two hour movie.
Speaker B:What the fuck?
Speaker A:You, sir, were wrong.
Speaker B:I was so fucking wrong.
Speaker B:I was just like, oh, damn.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because is not a long movie, but it feels like it is.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And there's.
Speaker B:And I was trying to see like, hey, where would I cut it down?
Speaker B:And there's not a very.
Speaker B:Like, I would cut that specifically.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Like, I couldn't find anything that I was like, oh, yeah, no, you didn't need that.
Speaker B:It just.
Speaker B:Everything was just too long.
Speaker B:With where you're.
Speaker B:Where you're commuting or you're walking or you're going through stuff.
Speaker A:It is.
Speaker B:The scenes are too long.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So like it's.
Speaker B:It's almost like every scene was essential to tell the story, but they were just too long.
Speaker B:Of scenes, like cut a little bit more, but I don't know where to cut it.
Speaker B:And I usually try and pick in a movie where I'm dragging, like, hey, I could have done without that scene.
Speaker B:But even like the ones I would have cut is probably the restaurant scene.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But that's my favorite scene in the movie.
Speaker B:So it's like anything that could have been cut was the best part of the movie because it didn't pertain to the story necessarily.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And I was, I was just going.
Speaker B:I was like, this is stupid.
Speaker B:Why did I pick this movie?
Speaker B:Matt is not even gonna be here.
Speaker B:I was, I was more mad about that than anything else.
Speaker B:But of course, I mean, yeah, it's not a.
Speaker B:It's not a good movie.
Speaker B:But it's also not anything that I could say is, hey, this is absolute horseshit.
Speaker B:Because it's just very bland.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I mean, I would agree.
Speaker A:It's not.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't even know.
Speaker A:It's such a weird thing to like trying to think of, how do I explain this?
Speaker A:Like, to your credit, like, to your point, you're not wrong.
Speaker A:Like, there.
Speaker A:We do this a lot.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:What would we cut?
Speaker A:What would we edit?
Speaker A:I do think the thing that stands out is there's a 10 minute musical break in the middle of this movie that I'm like, could have been five and that.
Speaker A:But that's.
Speaker A:Again, I'm in the same boat.
Speaker A:Like, that's the only thing I'm like, okay, that could have been five minutes less.
Speaker A:But I understand the necessity of it too, because it's where Patrick Dempsey gets to see that she's not around.
Speaker A:Like, this girl has some weird going on that.
Speaker A:It.
Speaker A:You can't just attribute to her being cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
Speaker A:Like, there's something.
Speaker A:The animals and the people are just like attracted to her and like her.
Speaker A:Know what I mean?
Speaker A:So it's.
Speaker A:You need it, but it doesn't need to be 10 minutes long.
Speaker A:Like, it doesn't need to be the full musical gamut.
Speaker A:Like, we could have gotten a very abridged version of that and it would have worked.
Speaker A:But I.
Speaker A:In the restaurant scene.
Speaker A:Yeah, like you could do without it from a story perspective.
Speaker A:But it's the funniest part of the movie.
Speaker A:Like when he hurls the pizza like a Frisbee, it's like eight feet wide, like into the.
Speaker B:It just blows up.
Speaker A:It's like, that's not how that would work.
Speaker A:But sure.
Speaker A:So it just like.
Speaker A:And then the other piece, I'm like, well, you probably could have cut out.
Speaker A:I. I guess.
Speaker A:And again, I was thinking you could cut out some of the entry scenes, like, of them coming through the manhole, but at the same time, again, some of the funniest that happened in the movie, like when he comes out ass first, it's just like, I can't even.
Speaker A:And he's like, no, I'm looking for a prince.
Speaker A:And these construction workers, like, yeah, tracks.
Speaker A:But then the fact that they're like, oh, again, like it's.
Speaker A:You just said three people crawl out of this.
Speaker A:Like, it's just great anyway, like.
Speaker A:But again, yeah, the parts that work, you could cut out, but then you're left with this non functional movie versus.
Speaker A:There were some funny parts.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And like even the.
Speaker B:Because there's, there's that subtle.
Speaker B:The subtle jokes.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Like right at the beginning where she's cleaning the house and she calls all the city animals.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And so you get the pigeons and the rats and the cockroaches and the flies and it's just.
Speaker A:Yeah, that.
Speaker B:I like that because that's a playful spin on the whole fairy tale thing.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Woodland.
Speaker B:There's come and shove.
Speaker B:And there are no woodland creatures in New York City.
Speaker B:So instead you get the city vermin.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And so that.
Speaker B:That like makes me chuckle.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Those little moments.
Speaker B:But what sandwiches that is.
Speaker B:I, I like Patrick Dempsey.
Speaker B:Not a huge fan of his, but he's.
Speaker B:He's solid.
Speaker B:Yeah, he's just like plain white bread.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Just no substance to his character as his acting.
Speaker B:And he's just kind of like, like, who's gonna pick that over freaking Marsden with all of his, you know, flamboyant, just awesomeness like.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:And so it's.
Speaker B:It's gone to more time where I'm like, the person I want to see more of is actually Marston.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:In this and completely his screen time that he gets.
Speaker B:Like, he's great every single time he's on the screen.
Speaker B:He's just not on it enough.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And instead we get, you know, lawyer Patrick Dempsey, which I think he could play that a lot better.
Speaker B:I mean, I feel like it was.
Speaker B:It was trying to be this boring lawyer.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But lawyer itself just implies boring.
Speaker B:You don't have to double it up with more boring.
Speaker B:Now you.
Speaker B:You can have, you know, your Robin Williams from Hook type lawyer or Lincoln lawyer kind of mixing there.
Speaker B:So you have a personality on top of being a lawyer, because lawyer by itself is, you know, you're just kind of, like, being redundantly boring for the.
Speaker A:Sake of being boring.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And so that.
Speaker B:That was rough because the.
Speaker B:It felt like most of the great moments were sandwiched by just Patrick Dempsey existing.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Like, he showed up to work that day for 35 minutes and go, yeah.
Speaker A:I blame that on Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker A:This is at the height of Grey's.
Speaker A:It was like the first two years of Grey's Anatomy, which is like, if you want to call it peak.
Speaker A:I don't know enough about the show, but, like, I remember that's when, like, Casey was watching it a ton.
Speaker A:And so it was like, I.
Speaker A:For him, I think it was just, like an additional paycheck that he cashed in on because of his resurgence because of Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker A:And so, yeah, it's just like Star wars or not Star Wars.
Speaker A:It was like Transformers that.
Speaker A:He was in that.
Speaker A:The second Transformers movie, I think, where it was like, you can tell he got this offer because he's super on top of the world again because of Grey's Anatomy.
Speaker A:So he's like, well, I'm gonna cash in on this movie paycheck at the same time as this TV paycheck, because why the not right.
Speaker A:I don't think I've seen a good.
Speaker A:I can't think of a good Patrick Dempsey performance since, like, the 90s, dude.
Speaker A:So it's like, I. I think about that too, and I'm like, when has he been good since Grey's Anatomy?
Speaker B:Like, not really as a leading character.
Speaker B:For me, it's more like in the background.
Speaker A:What has he even done?
Speaker A:Like, that's the other thing I was trying to think of while I was watching this.
Speaker A:I had this internal dialogue going on.
Speaker A:Like, has he even done Any.
Speaker A:I guess he was in.
Speaker B:No, I guess it's more of the, like, screams.
Speaker B:He was.
Speaker B:He's in a couple of those, right?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:At all.
Speaker B:Some voice work.
Speaker B:Transformers, like you said, Bridget Jones, Baby.
Speaker B:But he's.
Speaker B:He's much better as a TV actor than he is as a actor.
Speaker B:And maybe that's because in tv, Right.
Speaker B:You get more chances.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Or you.
Speaker B:You can play this, like, boring character than the scenes around you maneuver enough that you can.
Speaker B:You know, you'll.
Speaker B:You'll have your great moments, and it just kind of.
Speaker B:I guess the flow of the show will help you out, but in a movie, you don't get that.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:No, a movie.
Speaker B:You got to be honest.
Speaker B:He's also pretty to look at.
Speaker B:There's.
Speaker B:There's that.
Speaker B:Fair.
Speaker A:That is fair.
Speaker A:He is a very attractive man.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I think the last thing I saw him in that I actually appreciated him was in Freedom Writers.
Speaker A:I. I think that was the last time.
Speaker A:And even.
Speaker A:That wasn't even, like, he was in, you know, a massive amount.
Speaker A:It just.
Speaker A:Anyway.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Disappointing as far as that goes.
Speaker A:But again, I think.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I think there's a lot of actors that had, like, a, you know, can't buy me love kind of thing.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:Oh, Patrick Dempsey's the.
Speaker A:And then they fall off.
Speaker A:Because he didn't do much later, you know, as he grew up.
Speaker A:And then he got crazy, Adam, and he's like, oh, yeah.
Speaker A:And I don't blame him.
Speaker A:Dude, take those paychecks.
Speaker A:You know what I mean?
Speaker A:Get that.
Speaker A:I don't care.
Speaker A:But I. I think that's.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I mean, Patrick Dempsey is Patrick Dempsey.
Speaker A:He was just a pretty face for this, and that's about it.
Speaker A:I think the part that I wanted more of that made sense to me from this movie's perspective.
Speaker A:And what it was trying to do was the.
Speaker A:The Her, Amy Adams and the daughter moments, like their little shopping trip.
Speaker A:I was like, can I see more of that?
Speaker A:Because that, I bet's funny as the two of them having the interaction, spending dad's money.
Speaker A:Like, that shit's funny as hell.
Speaker A:And I.
Speaker A:You know, and that's.
Speaker A:But you only get that one scene, and we.
Speaker A:There's so much focus on their, like, falling in love.
Speaker A:Like, I'd have much more appreciated it if you come at it from the aspect of.
Speaker A:He felt he learned to appreciate her because of the interaction she had with his daughter versus that being implied.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Like, so obviously, the daughter.
Speaker A:They had that moment where she's like, I'm Gonna miss her.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker A:And so there's.
Speaker A:You can tell that they've bonded, but like, show me more of that versus like this whole love story angle that, you know, he's all.
Speaker A:And I'm like, he's known her for two days and yeah, she's running through the park singing, come on, man, like, give me something.
Speaker A:Have some funny scenes with Amy Adams and that little actress because she was pretty funny.
Speaker A:So I think they missed the boat there pretty big.
Speaker A:And I think that could have added some value to the film.
Speaker B:No, I like that because let's.
Speaker B:Let's change two scenes in the movie, right?
Speaker B:Let's get rid of the shower scene and have it.
Speaker B:Amy Adams is making the daughter breakfast scene.
Speaker B:And let's switch the.
Speaker B:She made a dress from the curtains to.
Speaker B:They made a dress out of the curtains or they made dresses out of the curtains.
Speaker B:See, like, you switch those two and like you said, it becomes now a daughter's interaction with Amy Adams, which he's going to appreciate because that's the whole reason why Nancy is there to begin with.
Speaker B:And so now you have that.
Speaker B:It's a little bit more natural and understanding.
Speaker B:And like you were saying, it just fits a little bit better than trying to force this love story and bringing the daughter afterwards.
Speaker A:Yeah, I like that those two good scene changes there.
Speaker A:I will say it did tickle me every time you see the curtains with like the cutout.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:That was subtly funny as like especially the second time anyway.
Speaker A:But yeah, like, I just think, I think this could have been an interesting.
Speaker A:I mean, look, it's never gonna be a Oscar winner movie, but it also could have been much more entertaining and I think could have really tugged at your heartstrings a little bit better.
Speaker A:I also think the ending of this movie is Jesus.
Speaker A:Is it bloated?
Speaker A:Like the whole Susan Sarandon dragon chase.
Speaker A:I'm like, jesus, can we just get this over with?
Speaker B:Like we know how it's gonna end.
Speaker A:Yeah, like this is taking forever.
Speaker A:You know what I mean?
Speaker A:Like, so anyway, but I will say that the little henchman dude running around trying to get her to eat, drink, sl.
Speaker A:Like all his different accents.
Speaker A:And I laughed a lot at him, but I.
Speaker A:That's sad.
Speaker A:Would.
Speaker A:That's the funniest.
Speaker A:And I love that he looked the most like his animated version.
Speaker B:Yeah, well, they've done him dirty because he did voice work for the Princess and the Frog.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:As like the fat sidekick again, little henchmen.
Speaker B:And they did it.
Speaker B:It's exact.
Speaker B:It's almost exact same Body model they use for the animated character here.
Speaker B:They're just with him at this point, which is a bummer because, like, you said, like, he's the best part of this movie.
Speaker A:Yeah, he's great.
Speaker A:He's great.
Speaker A:It's just.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:He made, like, in his interactions with the freaking chipmunk dude, like with Pip.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:Hilarious.
Speaker A:And even to the point the one was disturbing, when he hangs him up by the hangar, I was like, that's like, that's up.
Speaker A:That's way.
Speaker A:It's, like, torturous.
Speaker A:It was like, there are little kids that are scarred because of that right there.
Speaker A:Like.
Speaker A:Or some little.
Speaker A:Like, you actually went out and did it, like.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, no.
Speaker B:100% little chipmunk sociopath.
Speaker A:Insane.
Speaker A:The other piece that makes me laugh and I understand why they did it, but, man, what a waste of Idina Menzel.
Speaker A:Yeah, that.
Speaker A:That woman, I love her.
Speaker A:Like, she can sing.
Speaker A:She can act, but she could sing, man.
Speaker A:And the fact that we don't get to hear her sing.
Speaker A:And I know why.
Speaker A:Because, look, Amy Adams has a very beautiful voice.
Speaker A:But if.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's why nobody else sings in this movie except in the background.
Speaker A:Because any of these professional singers, like Idina Menzel starts singing, and all of a sudden you're like, oh, she probably should have been the lead.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's just like.
Speaker A:But that's the other funny part about that, is I love how Marsden and her end up together at the end, like, because he's so stupid and.
Speaker A:But he's so blunt.
Speaker A:Because he's so dumb.
Speaker A:And she loves that.
Speaker B:Like, it makes sense.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:It just made me laugh.
Speaker A:Like.
Speaker A:And it's weird because you start to go, how did those other two end up together to begin with?
Speaker A:Like, because he's so serious and drab.
Speaker A:And then, like, she obviously wants some, like, spontaneity and weird.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Interesting.
Speaker A:It's just an interesting.
Speaker A:But I was like, that's another one.
Speaker A:They should make a side movie of those two.
Speaker B:Made a sequel.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker B:Isn't it called Disenchanted or Some Focus is On.
Speaker A:But sounds to me like, with the name that I'm sure it has something to do with, they're not Happy and Happy Land anymore.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Which.
Speaker B:Who could have seen coming?
Speaker B:Marrying a boring lawyer.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:No.
Speaker A:Makes me nervous, though, because it was Adam Shankman that directed that one, so it probably has some of the dumbest humor ever, because that's typical Adam Shankman.
Speaker B:I could get behind that.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker A:You do.
Speaker A:Like, that dumbass.
Speaker B:I do like dumb humor.
Speaker A:Yeah, well, it does have Maya Rudolph in it, so it could be.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I just get salty because, like, I. I hear Adam Shankman and I'm like, all I think about is the new version of Hairspray.
Speaker B:I'm like, I can't.
Speaker A:I can't.
Speaker A:You probably.
Speaker A:Not that you could ruin this movie, but, like, you certainly couldn't improve upon it with that guy.
Speaker A:And I'm pretty sure it got way worse, like, ratings and reviews, so let's not add that to our list.
Speaker A:I.
Speaker B:Here's the thing about this movie.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:It is popular.
Speaker A:Oh, I know.
Speaker B:With certain people.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:One of them is my wife.
Speaker B:I don't know why, but it's.
Speaker B:It's so weird.
Speaker B:Like, the people.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's a very polarizing movie.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:You either love it.
Speaker B:Like, she.
Speaker B:She's like, this is top.
Speaker B:One of my top favorite movies.
Speaker B:Like, she loves it that much.
Speaker B:Or you're in the same boat we are.
Speaker B:Which is like, why the was this.
Speaker B:And there is a no in between.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because it's.
Speaker B:And it's one of those things where like.
Speaker B:Like you've never seen this?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So it's.
Speaker B:It's a weird one where a lot of people I don't think have seen it, but if you have seen it, you usually seen it once or you're watching it every weekend.
Speaker B:Like, that's the.
Speaker B:It's crazy.
Speaker B:It's a weird one.
Speaker A:I would want to put ice picks in my ears if I had to listen.
Speaker A:Just because Amy Adams's voice, when she talks, like, the whole.
Speaker A:And I know what she was doing it, but like, God, that high pitched.
Speaker A:Because that's not her voice.
Speaker A:Like, when you watch her in normal shit, like, she actually has a little more baritone to her voice.
Speaker A:Like, versus that high pitched.
Speaker A:I was like, shut up.
Speaker A:Like, it was.
Speaker A:And I love Amy Adams.
Speaker A:She's a phenomenal actress.
Speaker A:And I think part.
Speaker A:Like, one of the things you can say is that this kind of shows that too, because this is.
Speaker A:It couldn't have been easy to do that ridiculousness for however long, you know, months at a time.
Speaker A:Like, yeah, Jesus.
Speaker A:But yeah, like, I. I just think.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker A:Like, I. I won't watch this again if I can avoid it at all possible.
Speaker A:And I can for the most part.
Speaker A:So I don't.
Speaker A:It's just.
Speaker A:And it's.
Speaker A:I really like Amy Adams, so.
Speaker A:Which we'll talk about a lot during this month.
Speaker A:Like, I think there's not any other movies that we're doing this month that I don't have.
Speaker A:Just like massive amounts to praise to heap on her.
Speaker A:There's.
Speaker A:There's at least one that I don't love the movie in general, but I love her.
Speaker A:So it's like this is such an outlier for me when it comes to her.
Speaker A:And like the movies that she's in.
Speaker A:Though I will say Matson's Two Pigs didn't make it.
Speaker A:And I promise, I guarantee some of that votes.
Speaker A:And people were looking at it going, but those aren't Amy Adams movies.
Speaker A:She's just in them.
Speaker A:And barely at that, I was like, yeah.
Speaker A:When he sent me to put them in, I was like, dude, those aren't.
Speaker A:Wait, that's not Amy Adams movies, dude.
Speaker A:Like, anyway.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:Weird choice.
Speaker A:Weird movie.
Speaker A:Should we rate it?
Speaker B:Let's do it.
Speaker A:Kick it off, buddy.
Speaker A:This is your show.
Speaker B:Oh, this is my show.
Speaker B:One and a half.
Speaker B:And that's an easy one and a half.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's not that good of a movie.
Speaker B:It's not that bad of a movie, but it is, it's far more bad than it is good.
Speaker B:And at a.
Speaker B:It's at like less than two hour runtime, I believe, like, of actual movie time.
Speaker B:And it feels like six.
Speaker B:I will sit down.
Speaker B:I. I will sit down and watch six hour movie.
Speaker B:I've done it before, multiple times.
Speaker B:I was so ready for this to be over.
Speaker B:And I'd seen it before.
Speaker B:I knew what to expect.
Speaker B:I knew what I was getting into and I still just cannot.
Speaker B:I was getting up, kind of walking around, moving, fidgeting.
Speaker B:ADHD was kicking in hard because I couldn't, I can't sit through it.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's not compelling.
Speaker B:It has its moments, but those mammoth moments are really, you know, sandwiched in by just.
Speaker B:So it's like one and a half.
Speaker B:Not gonna be watching it again.
Speaker B:If it's something that you have avoided for the past, what is it now?
Speaker B:18 years.
Speaker B:News for you.
Speaker B:You're not missing out.
Speaker B:So keep avoiding it.
Speaker B:There's no reason to go watch this unless you are a huge Timothy Spall fan.
Speaker B:That's.
Speaker B:That's the only reason why you should watch it.
Speaker B:Because he does a good job.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker A:I'm gonna give it a two.
Speaker A:I think my.
Speaker A:I, I think I'm.
Speaker A:I always have to try to.
Speaker A:On movies like this.
Speaker A:I try to keep in mind that it is a kid's movie at the End of the day, and from a kid's perspective, especially, probably.
Speaker A:I don't even want to say that just from a kid's perspective, I could see where there's some entertainment value here.
Speaker A:I think there's a lot of jokes and little goofiness that land.
Speaker A:I think it's ironic because the things that they tried to do for the adults in this movie are.
Speaker A:Didn't work to your point.
Speaker A:Like the shower scene.
Speaker A:Like, there was no need for that shower scene.
Speaker A:It was just to be controversial, if you will, a little risque, if you will, and have the little funny birds holding the towel for whatnot.
Speaker A:But, like, what worked is the kid stuff, like I said, the interaction between her and her.
Speaker A:The kid.
Speaker A:And then like this, even though I.
Speaker A:It's too long.
Speaker A:The singing scene's pretty funny.
Speaker A:Like that she gets everybody in Central park to dance with her and sing with her.
Speaker A:And so, I mean, there's.
Speaker A:There's parts to it that are redeeming, but not even remotely enough of them to actually redeem the movie.
Speaker A:Yeah, there's obviously phoned in performances.
Speaker A:This was a paycheck for a lot of people.
Speaker A:And I'm still blown away at the names that are in this movie.
Speaker A:Like, even if you take Patrick Dempsey out of it, like, Susan Sarandon, Amy Adams, James Marsden, Athena Menzel, and I understand Adina Menzel because she's kind of a Disney staple.
Speaker A:But like some of these actors, like, there's a.
Speaker A:There's three.
Speaker A:Multiple Oscar nomination.
Speaker A:I think a couple of wins among the two of them, because I think I know Susan Strandon's won one, and I'm pretty sure Amy Adams has won one, and I know James Marsden was nominated for at least one.
Speaker A:So you've got at least three nominations in there, bare minimum, and I'm pretty sure a couple of wins.
Speaker A:And here we are, and they're in Enchanted.
Speaker A:So it's.
Speaker A:It's just wild.
Speaker A:But again, it could have been way worse.
Speaker A:Like, we've watched way worse on this podcast, so that is fair.
Speaker A:I. I don't want to, like, say it's a raging dumpster fire, but I want to say it's.
Speaker A:It's adjacent.
Speaker B:Close enough.
Speaker A:And I. I'm glad that I had avoided it for the entirety of its.
Speaker A:Of its existence up until yesterday.
Speaker B:So you're welcome.
Speaker A:Thanks for that.
Speaker A:But, yeah, so I'll give it a two.
Speaker A:And I will not watch this again.
Speaker A:And, yeah, there it is.
Speaker A:Man, August is off to a great start, but it should be interesting for the rest of the Month because the rest of the month there's some, some heavy hitters I think.
Speaker A:But yeah, with that.
Speaker A:Alec, tell everybody where they can find us.
Speaker B:Happy to.
Speaker B:Like JJ said, this is week one of AAA month.
Speaker B:Amy Adams, August.
Speaker B:Gonna put that on a T shirt.
Speaker B:So like JJ's plug before the Patreon is a place to get involved.
Speaker B:Votes are free.
Speaker B:We spent the first five minutes of this podcast making fun of our redheaded stepchild friend that you should tell you these votes mean a lot to us.
Speaker B:There's no kind of voting bragging rights.
Speaker B:More so than, you know, beating out JJ and Matson or beating out each other for getting a pick on there.
Speaker B:That's the entire, not the entire reason.
Speaker B:That's a very big reason why we do the podcast is to make each other suffer.
Speaker B:1 and 2 have bragging rights that our movies got picked.
Speaker B:So completely free to vote.
Speaker B:Join us there.
Speaker B:Go vote.
Speaker B:Put in a vote if you want more content.
Speaker B:We are full of it.
Speaker B:We're plus 500 episodes on Patreon of behind the scenes outtakes, jokes, giggles, inappropriate stuff that we cannot put on the actual YouTube podcast and all the above.
Speaker B:There's even extra full length episodes of some weird ass movies that we have had requested by our lovely patrons, Charles, CB and Rich.
Speaker B:Yeah, so if you guys want to make us watch some pretty you up stuff because they have, you can join in a tiered membership, pay us a little money, we'll watch whatever you want and then we'll talk about it.
Speaker B:That's as easy as it is.
Speaker B:So join us there for free.
Speaker B:Join us there for paid.
Speaker B:Have some fun.
Speaker B:We do hate each other, but we also love each other.
Speaker B:So I mean it's, it's a very fun group environment, whole little thing.
Speaker B:So join us there.
Speaker B:And with that I'll kick it back to see the Titan of Terror, the Colossus of Clout.
Speaker B:A jj.
Speaker A:Yes sir.
Speaker A:Titan of Terror works because we're getting closer and closer to March or October, my friend.
Speaker B:Dude, I have seen weapons trailer like every other goddamn ad because you made me watch it.
Speaker A:You're welcome.
Speaker A:I.
Speaker B:It's everywhere, dude made me watch it.
Speaker A:Yeah, it is now.
Speaker B:Everywhere.
Speaker A:It is everywhere.
Speaker A:There's the.
Speaker A:I laugh every time it pops up on my feeds too because I'm like, oh, that's funny.
Speaker A:Especially like the.
Speaker A:There's like the.
Speaker A:The here's Johnny type looking scene where the head like, oh God.
Speaker B:The one that I was getting for a while is the one with the kids like running across the street like a butterfly.
Speaker A:Creepy ass.
Speaker A:So, yeah, this is some fun to possibly look forward to.
Speaker A:But, yeah.
Speaker A:Look, we love it when you join us.
Speaker A:We appreciate it.
Speaker A:And as always, we'll catch you on the next one.
Speaker B:Hasta la vista, baby.
Speaker A:Cinematic.
