Chef (2014)

Carl Casper started his career as a promising chef but he has found himself in a creative rut. The owner of the restaurant he cooks for insists on sticking to a safe and common menu. When a high level critic reviews the standard menu lineup (against Carl’s insistence of trying new options) a scathing and potentially career ending review results. To make matters worse, Carl starts a Twitter war with the critic resulting in an embarrassing viral freak out video. With tension in his relationships and his career crumbling Carl looks to move forward.

Ian takes issue with Fairy Tale endings. Javier questions Carl’s game. JJ defends chubby guys everywhere. Mattson shares the story of seventy dollar steak. Everyone tells their favorite bite of food.

Oh man, John Favreau is just so good. What I enjoyed was just the whole generational gap between Carl and Percy. It’s reminiscent of what is usually seen between grandparents and grandchildren in cinema but having it be between father and son was a nice little twist on it. Don’t feel bad about that golf argument with Javier JJ, he’s been on that shtick for 14 years. Something about how sports have to have a physical aspect and a defensive aspect. It’s best to just smile, nod and bring up something embarrassing from his past haha. Great episode again guys!! You’re on fire!!
