Failure to Launch (2006)

Alec, JJ and Mattson lean into an analysis of the film "Failure to Launch." Our primary contention revolves around the excessive emotional manipulation experienced by the protagonist, Tripp, a character portrayed by Matthew McConaughey, whose predicament elicits both humor and dismay. While we acknowledge the film's predictable narrative structure, we also appreciate its comedic elements and the ensemble cast's performances, particularly those of Sarah Jessica Parker and Bradley Cooper. Throughout our dialogue, we examine the dynamics of the characters and their interactions, noting the film's blend of absurdity and charm. Ultimately, we express a collective sentiment that despite its flaws, the movie provides an entertaining experience worthy of discourse within the romantic comedy genre.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Those of people you know that are have weird dating habits and then let them listen and watch.

Speaker A:

It's week two of our month of Alec Alex month.

Speaker C:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Which happens to be chick flicks.

Speaker A:

And we're kicking it into week two in style with failure to launch.

Speaker A:

,:

Speaker A:

It was written by Tom J.

Speaker A:

Asel and Matt Ember, was directed by Tom day.

Speaker A:

Stars Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Bates, Terry Bradshaw, Joey Zoe Deschanel, Justin Bartha, Bradley Cooper and Katherine Winick.

Speaker A:

That's when the fun begins.

Speaker A:

Sure.

Speaker A:

What a synopsis.

Speaker A:

Alec, this is your pick.

Speaker A:

Tell us why you chose Failure to Launch.

Speaker A:

My friend.

Speaker C:

I'm a for Matthew McConaughey movies and this is like one of the few chick Flicks with Matthew McConaughey that, that I haven't already slipped into the podcast.

Speaker C:

So this one was absolutely going on the list.

Speaker C:

I love this movie.

Speaker C:

This is one of those that I will watch anytime, anywhere because it's funny but also has a great supporting cast.

Speaker C:

I mean, the fact that you have Terry Bradshaw in this movie and it works.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it does.

Speaker C:

It doesn't feel forced or doesn't feel awkward having, you know, the cast that they have.

Speaker C:

It's just start to finish.

Speaker C:

I'm.

Speaker C:

I'm cracking up the entire time.

Speaker C:

So I was 100 gonna put this movie in when it was my month, hands down.

Speaker A:

That's fair.

Speaker A:

That's fair.

Speaker A:

Madison, had you seen this one before?

Speaker B:

I had not seen this one before.

Speaker B:

Say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Speaker B:

I overall, I gotta say, I quite liked it.

Speaker B:

It was.

Speaker B:

I don't know if refreshing is not the right word, but like, it just are, like, okay, I'M vibing with this movie and let's just see where this movie goes type thing.

Speaker B:

And I mean, I.

Speaker B:

Is this the greatest cinematic movie I've ever seen?

Speaker B:

I mean, is.

Speaker B:

Is.

Speaker B:

Is any chick flick to an extent.

Speaker B:

But in terms of the genre and some of the jokes and things that I felt especially.

Speaker B:

Why am I forgetting his name?

Speaker B:

He.

Speaker B:

He's super famous now.

Speaker B:

Bradley Cooper.

Speaker B:

My gosh, dude.

Speaker B:

Some of his quotes.

Speaker B:

Oh, my.

Speaker B:

His lines, Jeez.

Speaker B:

And I need to look them up because there was one that killed.

Speaker B:

There's a couple.

Speaker B:

But we do.

Speaker B:

They've.

Speaker B:

They planted those things perfectly.

Speaker B:

And I should have.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker B:

It was later and I.

Speaker B:

There was a couple I was going to text into you all, especially you, Jake, because I was like, oh, I know.

Speaker B:

J.J.

Speaker B:

just got tickled pink at that reference.

Speaker B:

He probably just died right there.

Speaker B:

So I love that.

Speaker B:

The guy that plays our other friend, the one that's so famous, super famous from National Treasure.

Speaker B:

That's where I always remember him from.

Speaker B:

I can't remember his actor name.

Speaker A:

Justin.

Speaker A:

I don't.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I don't, like, love him.

Speaker B:

He definitely is typecast.

Speaker B:

He played a similar type of, like, nerd figuring it out character.

Speaker B:

He was fine.

Speaker B:

He had some timely jokes, too.

Speaker B:

But Zooey Deschanel, who I love, didn't like.

Speaker B:

I didn't not like her in this.

Speaker B:

But the way that they, like, portrayed her is like the complete completely opposite of like, the preppy, like, goody two shoes teacher from New Girl.

Speaker B:

She was like some emo, like, kind of figuring it out chick.

Speaker B:

All that just was interesting to me and fun and liked a lot of what I was seeing on screen.

Speaker B:

And yeah, I gotta say, you guys literally just said his name.

Speaker B:

The quarterback that I see all the time on Sunday.

Speaker B:

Why am I forgetting his name?

Speaker B:

J.J.

Speaker B:

what's his name?

Speaker A:

Terry Bradshaw.

Speaker B:

Yeah, Terry Bradshaw.

Speaker B:

He actually, like.

Speaker B:

He did.

Speaker B:

He was like a, like, it's hard to say a good actor, but, like, I was like, okay, this actually feels believable, which is a good compliment.

Speaker B:

You're gonna come be someone that's not really an actor and step in.

Speaker B:

Like, he did a good job.

Speaker B:

Like, felt like I was watching him on Fox Sports for their.

Speaker B:

Their.

Speaker B:

Their Sunday NFL Countdown, and he just happened to be naked.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So I have to say, like, I liked it.

Speaker B:

I thought it was fun.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's quite the conflagration of very famous people before they were, like, massively famous.

Speaker A:

They're riding the coattails of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaugh.

Speaker A:

But as we know, like, both Justin Bartha has always played his little bit parts.

Speaker A:

The hangover that, you know, like you mentioned with.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but.

Speaker A:

And, but then, yeah, you've got some that just launch and they're huge.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

I like this movie because it's clippable.

Speaker A:

Like the movie as a whole is what it is.

Speaker A:

It's just another chick flick that's funny and makes me laugh and I'm okay with it because it's got a weird premise and interesting.

Speaker A:

But like it's not.

Speaker A:

It doesn't stand out for any other reason than how good the cast is and like the.

Speaker A:

Some of.

Speaker A:

But I love it in like the pair ups, right?

Speaker A:

So like Matthew Bukane, Sarah Jessica Parker, pretty funny.

Speaker A:

But Trip and freaking Kit, dude, I could watch them all day long.

Speaker A:

Like when she's like, I smell something.

Speaker A:

Do you smell that?

Speaker A:

And he's like, oh, what's his face?

Speaker A:

Me and.

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker A:

Me and.

Speaker A:

Or no, Ace.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker A:

Ace and kid.

Speaker A:

He's like, me and Tripp had head crab.

Speaker A:

She goes, no, that's not it.

Speaker A:

She goes, I smell fun.

Speaker A:

You're a dirty fun haver.

Speaker A:

And then the way she just delivers it like stone cold dry.

Speaker A:

Zoe Deschanel.

Speaker A:

Love it.

Speaker A:

And then like the three idiots together of Ace and Trip and.

Speaker A:

And demo.

Speaker A:

Like, I'm like, oh, my God, these guys are great.

Speaker A:

So it's just like these pairings that have these scenes that make me laugh consistently that I just really enjoy.

Speaker A:

And then Terry Bradshaw wanting his naked room the whole time.

Speaker A:

It's just.

Speaker A:

That's just classic right there.

Speaker C:

Like, it weighs a thousand pounds.

Speaker B:

One of the best quotes I just.

Speaker B:

That's why I was laughing in silence.

Speaker B:

I told.

Speaker B:

It came back to me that when it demo says deception's a poison, it's like margarine.

Speaker B:

That one that is so funny to me.

Speaker B:

It's like, oh, my gosh, that one got me so good.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Bradley Cooper's got some great lines.

Speaker A:

Like when he's breaking down, why he keeps getting like, you got bit by a chuck wallet dude dolphin.

Speaker A:

He's like, therefore nature has rejected you.

Speaker A:

It's just.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that was so good.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

At least I'm not sponging off my parents so I can afford to get laid in every continent.

Speaker B:

Whoa, whoa.

Speaker B:

I'm a ramble man.

Speaker B:

I'm a tumbleweed.

Speaker B:

I'm a seeker of truth.

Speaker B:

And it's like, get out of here.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Oh, I love that dynamic.

Speaker B:

They like, anytime they were.

Speaker B:

All three of them were on screen and had something going on, like, it was great.

Speaker B:

Totally awesome.

Speaker A:

Well, and I was surprised at how Sarah Jessica Parker is not my favorite.

Speaker B:

She also was not my favorite.

Speaker A:

But she inserts in this dynamic pretty well because she plays.

Speaker A:

There's only a few.

Speaker A:

Like I.

Speaker A:

We watched.

Speaker A:

We did in the holidays.

Speaker A:

We did the.

Speaker A:

What she's in that.

Speaker A:

Casey loves the Thanksgiving slash Christmas movie where she.

Speaker A:

I don't remember, but she's got the weird throat clearing thing with.

Speaker A:

Anyway, so I don't like her that much, but I like her in this.

Speaker A:

Like the whole paintballing scene makes me laugh.

Speaker A:

Like the finger roll and they just keep doing this.

Speaker A:

I'm like, look, looks terrible.

Speaker A:

Like, but I'm here for it.

Speaker A:

Like, I really enjoy.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So she inserts into the dynamic in this cast very well, even though most of the time I'm not a huge fan of her.

Speaker A:

But yeah, I liked it.

Speaker B:

Or just like the simple scene.

Speaker B:

I was just gonna say when like the trip's parents were trying to like stonewall him a little bit, make him do things around the house.

Speaker B:

And like his mom comes in and like tells me he needs to clean something and.

Speaker B:

And tells him about the rubber gloves.

Speaker B:

And that was just like, something's wrong with your mom.

Speaker B:

And you're just, you can remember that scene.

Speaker B:

They're all like grown men in their 30s and you're like, these are like 12 year old boys that should be saying something like this.

Speaker B:

And so I think they, they, they did that dynamic really well.

Speaker B:

This performance by Bradley Cooper.

Speaker B:

I actually just watched one of my favorite chick flicks.

Speaker B:

Can you call it a chick flick?

Speaker B:

I guess it is kind of.

Speaker B:

It is Wedding Crashers.

Speaker B:

Freaking love that movie.

Speaker B:

Watched it last night.

Speaker B:

And he plays like a more seriously off the rails kind of character when he's in those.

Speaker B:

Like, because this, those movies are before he landed big and has obviously been his own star in his own right.

Speaker B:

I miss some of the old him.

Speaker B:

I wish he would go back and do some of these like more bit performances because, man, he kills them.

Speaker B:

Like he.

Speaker B:

And obviously he's.

Speaker B:

Because he's a really good actor and deserves his own performances, but.

Speaker B:

Oh my goodness, you put him in those doses.

Speaker B:

He just.

Speaker B:

He's great.

Speaker A:

Oh yeah, you're getting ready to say something, Alec.

Speaker C:

Yeah, I was gonna say the one part that I actually don't like about this movie is the fact that he gets bit by everything.

Speaker C:

Mike McConaughey.

Speaker A:

Oh, really?

Speaker C:

Yeah, that's a bit that I was like.

Speaker C:

Oh, I don't know if it plays off for me as well.

Speaker C:

Like the fourth or sixth time he gets bit by something.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

I'm like, it's funny when it's the dolphin and it's funny when it's a chipmunk.

Speaker C:

But when you, like, put them all together, including the chuckwalla and everything else, I'm like, it just feels like they like, hey, this worked.

Speaker C:

Let's keep doing it.

Speaker A:

Sure.

Speaker C:

That's like my biggest gripe with this movie.

Speaker C:

Other than that I don't have much to.

Speaker C:

Right.

Speaker B:

I didn't feel like.

Speaker B:

It's maybe because of how Jay described it.

Speaker B:

Like, this movie has really good scenes and that's just kind of how I continued to see parts of this movie.

Speaker B:

Like, I was just brought into another glimpse of something.

Speaker B:

And this treated it almost like.

Speaker B:

As like a separate entity, like, towards the end of this movie.

Speaker B:

I think this movie has, like a.

Speaker B:

A great culmination of, like, the chick flick moment that they're all in the restaurant and watching on the big screen, like, treating it like a sporting event and, like, try to figure out what's happened.

Speaker B:

I was like, oh, that's pretty freaking funny that they did it like that.

Speaker B:

Because you could just imagine, like, if you could see some of the things that happened with your friends, I thought that was obviously over the top and not realistic.

Speaker B:

But that's what we watch a lot of these movies for.

Speaker B:

Because, let's be honest, most of this stuff doesn't happen.

Speaker B:

These great fairy tale endings don't come to play.

Speaker B:

And I think it almost kind of makes fun of itself in a way and does a really good job.

Speaker A:

Yeah, Yeah.

Speaker A:

I mean, the movie's incredibly predictable.

Speaker A:

Like it.

Speaker A:

I mean, it follows a pattern.

Speaker A:

And you know, how.

Speaker B:

What chick flick is it?

Speaker A:

Sure.

Speaker A:

Exactly, like, fits perfectly in the mold as far as the overarching story goes, which is fine.

Speaker A:

But I think that's why the little moments that stick out to me stick out so well, because I went in expecting, you know, just your typical walking through the motions.

Speaker A:

And then there's these weird scenes and I'm with you.

Speaker A:

Like, they do overuse the biting thing, but the dolphin one just cracks my up.

Speaker A:

Like when he just disappears under the water, he's just like, oh, what the hell?

Speaker A:

And the, like, the Chuck Wallace funny to me because, like, they're just the most thing.

Speaker A:

So like these animals, the chipmunk.

Speaker A:

I'm like, chipmunks can be feral little.

Speaker A:

So it didn't surprise me.

Speaker A:

But like, yeah, the Chuck Walla, like, these things that shouldn't be biting you.

Speaker A:

It made me laugh in the moment.

Speaker A:

And so.

Speaker A:

And then the payoff for it.

Speaker A:

I'm like.

Speaker A:

Because I kept going, why the does he keep getting gnawed on by these weird animals?

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Other than for comedy.

Speaker A:

So then the payoff when Bradley Cooper does deliver the line of, like, no, dude, you're up.

Speaker A:

Like.

Speaker A:

Like, yeah, nature hates your ass right now.

Speaker A:

Like, that made me laugh.

Speaker A:

But I'm with you.

Speaker A:

They do overuse it a little bit.

Speaker A:

Like, one or two would have been perfect.

Speaker A:

My biggest gripe with this movie is, like, they absolutely abused this poor bastard.

Speaker A:

Like, it's like, emotionally just trapped.

Speaker B:

Emotional damage.

Speaker A:

Seriously.

Speaker A:

Like, the fact that they've got his ass strapped to a chair in a closet after he's been manipulated for weeks.

Speaker A:

And like, that.

Speaker A:

He's like, yeah, we can give it a whirl.

Speaker A:

That's not real.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

But, I mean, it's hard because, like, you have to set aside the fact that it's just completely unrealistic to imagine because what chick flick is.

Speaker A:

But I don't know.

Speaker A:

Like, that's my.

Speaker A:

I'm like, sitting there going, he wouldn't forgive you at the end.

Speaker A:

What the is wrong with this?

Speaker A:

He's duct taped to a chair.

Speaker A:

What I do isn't this.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's been a week since I watch this in this.

Speaker A:

Where she takes it off and then puts it back on the duct tape of like, I'd be so pissed.

Speaker B:

If Alec was.

Speaker A:

Alec.

Speaker B:

You should tell us how this scene would have played out with you if you were duct taped in the chair.

Speaker C:

I'd rather.

Speaker B:

Nothing tells me it would have gone very differently.

Speaker A:

Yeah, no, I think Alec would have just held on to it.

Speaker A:

He'd be like, oh, yeah, he told you exactly what you wanted to hear.

Speaker A:

Then like, a month later, after he's been out of the chair and he's led you down thinking you're safe and good, next thing you know, everybody's going, where the is?

Speaker C:

Yeah, I'm gone.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

She left.

Speaker A:

She just decided to get the hell out.

Speaker A:

She got other people.

Speaker A:

She's got to get out of her parents.

Speaker C:

She got on a sailboat and she just went off.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Little does she know, there's an unmarked grave in the middle of the Arizona desert.

Speaker C:

Not a monster.

Speaker C:

There would be a marker.

Speaker C:

Not a very visible one, but there'd be one.

Speaker B:

Maybe that's Alex tactic.

Speaker B:

JJ would have mouthed off, and I probably would be the closest approach to actually being Tripp in this clip.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you would have.

Speaker A:

You would have forgiven.

Speaker B:

Although the two.

Speaker B:

The two ladies that JJ and I have put Share wagons to.

Speaker B:

Could prove to be very persuasive at times in ways that would be quite fearful for us.

Speaker C:

I married a half Apache who's descended from Geronimo.

Speaker B:

But I.

Speaker B:

I don't hear stories about.

Speaker B:

About your lady.

Speaker B:

I.

Speaker B:

J.J.

Speaker B:

certainly knows things and I know things about his.

Speaker C:

Yeah, I don't get to tell the stories.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's because Alec would end up with wellness checks if he.

Speaker B:

If there is someone that has hitch their wagon to Alec, they've got to be pretty ba.

Speaker A:

Because.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, that's all we need to say.

Speaker A:

That's fair.

Speaker A:

She has to be half Apache related, descended from Geronimo, because otherwise keep the b.

Speaker A:

She'll end up in a marked grave in the middle of the Arizona desert.

Speaker A:

There's plenty of places out between, I don't know, Gila Bend and Ajo.

Speaker A:

You gotta stay on the.

Speaker A:

On the.

Speaker A:

You stay on the east side though, because they blow up the west side.

Speaker A:

Enough with weapons testing.

Speaker A:

Things might shake loose.

Speaker C:

Accidents happen.

Speaker A:

Yeah, she was too busy walking around in the freaking weapons testing zone.

Speaker A:

What the hell is she doing out there?

Speaker A:

Just looking for Gila monsters.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Oh, God.

Speaker A:

Yeah, there's literally nothing out there.

Speaker A:

That drive, that's a.

Speaker A:

That's an hour and a half drive.

Speaker A:

I remember getting to Gila Bend, hopping in the car and driving from Gila Bend to Ajo and I went, I'm in trouble.

Speaker A:

All I had was a bike.

Speaker A:

I don't have a car.

Speaker A:

I gotta rely on someone to get my ass out of this little oasis in the middle of nowhere.

Speaker C:

Oh, that's how they pitched it to you?

Speaker A:

Well, no, I knew, I knew it was bad because like they were telling it where you're opening this area, nobody's been there in like a year and a half.

Speaker A:

I'm like, oh, great.

Speaker A:

But then I get out there and everybody that lives out Naho thinks it's an oasis in the middle of the desert.

Speaker A:

And I don't have the heart to tell them no.

Speaker A:

You live in a dust bowl in the middle of nowhere with a grocery store, gas station photo.

Speaker C:

Developing course.

Speaker C:

Now KJJ is there two and all.

Speaker C:

It's a bustling metropolis.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah, there's the Pizza Hut still like attached to the gas station that shut down.

Speaker A:

Oh, is Senior Sancho's restaurant still there?

Speaker A:

That's all that's going to be there.

Speaker A:

That's the greatest.

Speaker A:

That's the best food I've ever eaten in my life.

Speaker A:

We ate there every day.

Speaker A:

It was so good.

Speaker A:

Their.

Speaker A:

Their tortas oh, my God.

Speaker B:

Mexican.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B:

Roaches coming in.

Speaker A:

No, it's surprisingly clean.

Speaker A:

It's a nice little shirt.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You just wouldn't know it was a restaurant if you didn't know.

Speaker A:

Like, you just see this little wood cabin looking kind of thing, and there's a sign that says, Senor Sancho, the is this.

Speaker A:

And they're like, you have to eat there.

Speaker A:

And then we didn't stop eating there.

Speaker A:

I think I put 10 pounds on in Ajo and all I did was ride a bike.

Speaker A:

Anyway, we're not talking about ajo.

Speaker A:

I don't know why.

Speaker A:

I'm talking about in the middle.

Speaker A:

Oh, because you were gonna leave.

Speaker A:

Except I don't know who'd get left out there, you or oshi, but.

Speaker C:

Oh, 100% me.

Speaker A:

Say but.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

No, I did.

Speaker A:

This movie's funny.

Speaker A:

Funnier than I expected.

Speaker A:

Casey's like you, Alex.

Speaker A:

She's got like a.

Speaker A:

An obsession with McConaughey.

Speaker A:

And then she has an even bigger obsession with Sarah Jessica Parker because she was like a big Sex in the City.

Speaker B:

So she watched this movie with you, for sure.

Speaker A:

Freak.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah, she.

Speaker A:

We've watched this movie a ton like she.

Speaker A:

This one, how to Lose a guy in 10 days.

Speaker A:

Like all the major McConaughey chick flicks, she'll pull out every once in a while and make me watch.

Speaker A:

And I'll say I laugh the most.

Speaker B:

For those.

Speaker B:

I know we have a more predominantly male listening audience.

Speaker B:

Like, you haven't seen it and you got a significant other or whatever, or you're just.

Speaker B:

You.

Speaker B:

It's a funny movie.

Speaker B:

Like, I think it's enjoyable and I'm happy to have watched it.

Speaker B:

And I'm sure I will watch this movie again.

Speaker B:

I've never seen it, but it was a good time.

Speaker B:

It was funny.

Speaker B:

And I think that for this type of genre, that's the praise that you're looking for.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's predictable.

Speaker B:

It's what you expect it to be, but it's got well timed jokes and you're going to laugh.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

What was the.

Speaker A:

What was the bird?

Speaker A:

What kind of bird?

Speaker B:

Oh, my God.

Speaker A:

Was it a mockingbird?

Speaker B:

To Kill a Mockingbird.

Speaker A:

Oh, that was great.

Speaker A:

I got it.

Speaker C:

You pumped it more than twice, didn't you?

Speaker A:

Oh, gosh.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker C:

Yeah, that did set up like the.

Speaker C:

One of the cool.

Speaker C:

One of the dumbest cool jokes that I've ever heard, which is when they're.

Speaker C:

When the mockingbird, she's talking to the guy in the gun store.

Speaker C:

He's like, there's a whole book on like, you know, why you shouldn't kill a mockingbird.

Speaker C:

She's like, oh, I'll take one of those too.

Speaker C:

To Kill a mockingbird?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

Thinking it's an instruction manual.

Speaker C:

That joke gets me every single time.

Speaker C:

But it's such a stupid joke.

Speaker C:

It shouldn't.

Speaker A:

I love the.

Speaker A:

In the same scene when she's talking to him, she goes, it's like.

Speaker A:

It's like it's 15 bucks for a box of 25.

Speaker A:

She's.

Speaker A:

I only need one.

Speaker A:

Like what?

Speaker A:

Well, and the guy that plays the shot, the store guy, what's his name?

Speaker A:

Oh, God, I know you're talking about.

Speaker A:

He's.

Speaker B:

He's in Stuff every.

Speaker B:

And some things.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

He's funny as hell.

Speaker A:

Rob Cordry is his name.

Speaker A:

He's in a movie called what Happens in Vegas with Ashton Kutcher.

Speaker A:

And I can't remember the.

Speaker A:

Why can't I think of her name?

Speaker A:

She was in the Mask.

Speaker A:

She's.

Speaker A:

She was one of the Charlie's Angels.

Speaker A:

White, the blonde.

Speaker A:

Why can't I think of her name?

Speaker C:

Anderson.

Speaker A:

No, you're going old school there.

Speaker A:

I'm impressed.

Speaker C:

Charlie's Angels blonde.

Speaker C:

There's only one that I'm going to.

Speaker B:

J.J.

Speaker B:

that's fair.

Speaker A:

But was she even in Charlie's Angel?

Speaker C:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Anyway, that's a funny movie.

Speaker A:

And he.

Speaker A:

Every time I see him, that's the movie that I think of because there's a line in that movie where the.

Speaker A:

The export.

Speaker A:

There's a girl's ex boyfriend and she's like her friends, like, I just want to like send a friend over and have him ring the doorbell of this guy.

Speaker A:

And when he opens the door, they just junk punch him right in the.

Speaker A:

Right in his man business.

Speaker A:

And then when he's like leaned over going, why?

Speaker A:

Because you just lean over and go, you know why?

Speaker A:

And so there's a post credit scene in the movie.

Speaker A:

I sell that to say that Rob Cordry's character and this sidekick, the female version of him in the movie are like always constantly at each other's throats and how they hate each other.

Speaker A:

But then at the end they go to the ex boyfriend's house who's played by Jason or the guy from the soccer coach guy.

Speaker A:

Anyway, I can't think of his name either right now.

Speaker A:

I'm not good with names this Sunday afternoon anyway.

Speaker A:

And they actually punch.

Speaker A:

She punches him right in the balls.

Speaker A:

And he's Rob C's character go.

Speaker A:

Turns around, goes, oh, really funny moment.

Speaker A:

You should Watch it just for that.

Speaker A:

But everything he's in.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

There's a whole book on why you shouldn't kill Mockingbird.

Speaker A:

But I love Zoe Deschanel.

Speaker A:

She's so dry and funny.

Speaker A:

The way she delivers a line, it's great.

Speaker B:

She was my crush a long time.

Speaker A:

Had a pretty big crush on her for a while too.

Speaker B:

Not so much in this, but with her dressing style, but like new girl her.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker C:

Oh, I.

Speaker C:

You're a new girl.

Speaker C:

I despise her.

Speaker B:

Well, I just like the way she like her get up and everything.

Speaker B:

Actually, in New Girl, she's like.

Speaker B:

She wears something through the seasons there.

Speaker B:

She's less of the reason to actually overall watch that show.

Speaker A:

But yeah, now this movie had another cr.

Speaker A:

Like super crush of mine, Katherine Winick.

Speaker A:

And I don't know if you guys have ever watched Vikings.

Speaker A:

The show Vikings.

Speaker A:

She's the.

Speaker A:

I can't remember her name in her character name and Catherine in the.

Speaker A:

In the movie, but good Lord.

Speaker A:

Lagertha.

Speaker A:

She's Lagertha.

Speaker A:

The blonde with the dread, like, the braids.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

She's.

Speaker A:

I don't even remember what she's in in this movie, but I like her a lot.

Speaker A:

So every time I watch this, I'm like, look at that.

Speaker A:

There's two of them in this movie.

Speaker A:

That I'd leave you for Casey.

Speaker B:

She's intense in Vikings.

Speaker A:

Yeah, she is.

Speaker B:

Don't mess.

Speaker B:

Don't mess with her, dude.

Speaker B:

She'll chop your head off.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker B:

That's how JJ likes him.

Speaker B:

Threat of.

Speaker B:

Threat of death at every corner.

Speaker A:

I like some feist.

Speaker A:

If I wake up every morning and just go, hey, I made it.

Speaker A:

I was.

Speaker A:

I didn't do anything too terrible to.

Speaker A:

Over the last little while.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah, no, I like a little.

Speaker A:

A little drama on whether or not I'm gonna wake up the next morning with or without a penile investment, because that's how it would start.

Speaker A:

Oh, she wouldn't kill me.

Speaker A:

She would torture me first.

Speaker A:

I'd be like legs strapped to blocks getting hit with freaking sledgehammers.

Speaker A:

And yeah, it'd be ugly.

Speaker C:

Sounds romantic.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You know, depends on if you like pain or not, which I don't, by the way.

Speaker A:

I'm such a.

Speaker A:

I did.

Speaker A:

I hate pain.

Speaker A:

But anyway.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Should we rate this thing?

Speaker B:

Let's do it.

Speaker A:

Feels really quick, but it's.

Speaker A:

There's not really a lot of substance to this 90 minute movie.

Speaker B:

Well, yeah, we're supposed to find some heart touching metaphors.

Speaker B:

See this?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Not so much.

Speaker A:

Not so much.

Speaker A:

I will say actually, Paul, I, I like the fact that he wasn't mooching off of his parents just to be lazy and mooch.

Speaker A:

Like he had like an emotional reason for it.

Speaker A:

Like that they kind of went down and with the, the girl.

Speaker A:

I, I like that part kind of tying it to where it wasn't just super ridiculous.

Speaker A:

And then the fact that he gets to throw it in their faces when after he finds out that they're being complete nutter pieces of to him.

Speaker A:

Like parents paid somebody to get you out of the house.

Speaker A:

It's funny.

Speaker A:

Anyway.

Speaker A:

Okay, Alec, you're first.

Speaker A:

It's your movie.

Speaker A:

Rate this my movie.

Speaker C:

It's a very easy four and a half for me.

Speaker C:

This is something that I will watch anytime, anywhere.

Speaker C:

I'll sit down and I'll watch it with.

Speaker C:

For, for no reason.

Speaker C:

I don't need a reason to go watch this movie because it's fun.

Speaker C:

I enjoy it.

Speaker C:

There's plenty of jokes to laugh at and so yeah, that's it for me.

Speaker A:

Four and a half.

Speaker C:

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Speaker A:

Cool.

Speaker A:

Cool.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna give it a three and a half.

Speaker A:

As far as like rom coms go, it's up there.

Speaker A:

It's a good one.

Speaker A:

I'm not a huge rom com fan.

Speaker A:

I don't love goofy love stories that.

Speaker A:

Because I find them ridiculous because that's not real life in any way, shape or form.

Speaker A:

So I get a little irritated because I'm like, no.

Speaker A:

No one can live up to those expectations on either side.

Speaker A:

So when it comes to chick flicks, there's never going to be one that's like a massive rating for me unless it's super hilarious.

Speaker A:

This one's good enough to get a three and a half for me.

Speaker A:

And I don't hate it.

Speaker A:

Like, I don't get pissed when Casey's like, we're gonna watch Failure to launch.

Speaker A:

But I saw this one on the list.

Speaker A:

I was like, okay, that's a good one.

Speaker A:

I can deal with that.

Speaker A:

So three and a half for me.

Speaker A:

I mean, look, it is exactly what you think it's going to be.

Speaker A:

There's.

Speaker A:

There's no twists, turns, shocking moments.

Speaker A:

It's just a funny rom com that has.

Speaker A:

Puts a little different spin on some, you know, pairings and weird friendship vibes.

Speaker A:

But yeah, it's good enough.

Speaker A:

Matt.

Speaker B:

Solid four for me.

Speaker B:

I think it's entertaining.

Speaker B:

It's fun.

Speaker B:

Watch it.

Speaker B:

Don't be disappointed.

Speaker B:

I don't think it still gets in my Mount Rushmore of of rom coms.

Speaker B:

Like, I'm not a huge rom com guy myself, but it might, if I watch again, like it's.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna be watching it again and it might in my bump a movie out.

Speaker B:

But I'm happy to have watched it and as your resident man of the people, go on, watch this movie.

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker A:

There it is.

Speaker A:

Fair to launch week two of Alex month, quote unquote chick flicks.

Speaker A:

Shit's gonna get weird from here though.

Speaker A:

But yeah, like tell everybody where they can find us.

Speaker C:

Speaker C:

Speaker C:
